Kalpataru Maa!

Dear Devotees,
What a coincidence! Or is it? Kalpataru diwas is Sri Sri Maa's Jayanti this time. The Kalpa-vrksha stands at the North-east corner of the temple, looking at the Real Kalpataru presiding inside... It has one queer feature - the trunk is bifurcated right from the bottom.

Kalpataru is the legendary 'wish-fulfilling tree' that abides in Indra's precincts. One could ask for the desired object, standing beneath it...of course, all that is finite, surely.
We are reminded of what Maitreyi, in her wisdom, asked on behalf of all of us, "किमहं तेन वित्तेन कुर्यां येनाहं अमृता न स्यां ?" (What am I to do with all the objects if they would not make me immortal..)

That brings up the natural question - would Ishvara, invoked as Kalpataru, be as apologetic as that?
Narayana Bhattathiri in his famous Naraayaneeyam addresses this in a glowing verse thus -

"Indeed it only befits vain mendicants to be begging from and of that insignificant tree that grows in Indra's garden, when O Lord Hari, you are there to shower what is desired, even though unprayed for, and transcending all that, the fruit called limitlessness - Moksha - upon devotees that have surrendered unto you!"

Ishvara is not an 'ordinary Parijata' who would want to grant you what would keep you bound in the finite Samsara. It could be said without a shade of doubt about Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna a least. Not for nothing was He so choosy about the right devotee - one who would not ask for things that bring bondage, one who wanted Ishvara Himself, Moksha alone!!
Yet, it takes a day like today, where one sees a Kalpataru day superimposed on Sri Maa's Jayanthi to understand why that Kalpataru Ishvara has indeed got to be patently Motherly - for this kind of compassion, born of sheer vatsallya!

Isn't it then rightly said of Her -
"Even upon that lowly devotee as has sullied this rare-to-attain human birth with millions of misdeeds and sense-enjoyments, and who is deeply immersed in abyssmal darkness, in the quicksand of delusive ignorance that scorches - She generously bestows Moksha, having lifted up his dirty self right on to Her own lap!! What more do I have to say in extolling the glories of my Mother! O Ma Sarada, the ever-eager Savior of those in distress and suffering, please save me!"
Indeed it takes Motherhood for manifestation of Ishvara's 'Kalpavrkshattvam'!!

Well, did not Bhagavan say to Arjuna, "I am the Father of this Jagat, and the Mother as well..."
Is it to indicate this truth that the Kalpa tree near the temple has a bifurcated trunk?

Maa! You chose this coincidence, You alone must choose to put us on your lap, we are ignorant as children, O Dayaamayi!!

Guru Poornima : Aaraatrikam

Dear Devotees,
"अनन्याश्चिन्तयन्तो मां " said Bhagavan Sri Krshna,    "यॊग-क्षेमं वहाम्यहम् ", declaring security of total care for those devoted single-pointedly.
Over five thousand years later He manifests as Sri Ramakrishna to grant another standing abhaya in Kaliyuga, and on easier terms than can be imagined!
The standing guarantee that He will help every seeker on the path towards Ishvara.
It may have taken the wisdom of Tulasidasa to invoke Hanuman as Guru, "कृपा करहुं गुरुदेव की नाईं ".
But here, now, every seeker knows that at any stage, Sri Thakurji offers unconditional help, prompting Swamiji to call Him out unequivocally as - " योग-सहाय ".
How deeply true it is! Thousands can testify to it! The unfailing friend in one's spiritual journey - Sri Thakurji.

This Guru-poornima, may we recognise Him as such and call out ourselves "हे योग-सहाय ! कृपा करहुं गुरुदेव की नाईं "... Well, isn't that the reason why all choose to call Him Sri Sri Guru Maharaj?

Leading a purely Ishvara-centered life, He guides every Jiva to the true goal of human life - Ishvara.

May He help us with dispassion, true devotion and Self-knowledge, which alone He likes doing any way!

Kalpatarum Vande!

Dear Bhaktas,
This day presents us a thoughtful question. The Giver is ready, the giving is assured, the taker has hands outstretched....., but wait, what do we want? A want that will leave us a 'wanting' person, unfulfilled? Or a want that will put an end to all our wants forever? O speak up my dear mind, is not enough enough? There does seem to be a valid hope, that I shall not be small, inadequate, limited, struggling Samsari any more! Hear ye the sweet utterance of the sweetness-incarnate, the ever-compassionate Thakurji, arousing us from the worldly slumber with the Abhaya-vakya, "What more shall I say? I bless you all, may you be illumined..!
So think deep this day, O dear Mind, let it be 'Sara' you seek, not 'Sam-sara' that you have sought birth after unfulfilled birth!

On this auspicious 'Ekadasi' Kalpataru day, may we have the wisdom to want the want that frees us from wants, and lets us know that we are the limitless Atman and be free!
Jai Sri Guru Maharaj!

We have a Mother... The Mother!

Sri Maa Sarada Devi's advent day is celebrated all over the world today. She came to heal those scorched by the world of becoming... Samsara. She came as 'Sara'da, the embodiment of knowledge hence, to enlighten, to free Her children.
"When you are in distress, just remind yourself that you have a Mother...", is Her abhaya-vaakya, providing refuge with effusive love. Well then, what really matters is, do we know this? Her real advent is then, when you know Her as Your Mother... your very own!!
Fire's burning power is inseparable from it, as is the Holy Mother from Sri Ramakrishna. For us, His healing and loving power, that touches our core... as the fount-head called Ma!
The name Maa, short, simple sweet, intimate.... for all... newborns to the decrepit .... The Mother of all, awaits our call... Her advent!

Sri Sri Thakur on Kamalasana watches as all the worship, Homa, songs, Arati and Pushpanjali are offered... to Him, His Shakti!!
We capture the celebration in a few images for you...
Jai Sri Maa

KALI THE MOTHER, being worshipped now!

                           ॐ

Says Acharya Shankara in this exquisitely devotional hymn, Soundarya Lahari, about the Divine Mother, "Even the Quiscent Reality, Shiva, is stirred to activity only by Her power - else He is, as we see Him, lying quietly and inactively under Her feet!" Can we know Him without Her? Could we comprehend fire without its heat and burning-power? Inseparable as the word and its meaning!
"Vishnu, Rudra and Brahma revel in adoring you alone, O Mother!"
"How can any one without great Punya even extol you or worship you, physically or mentally?"

Sri Ramakrishna echoed this again and again, "Well, O Mother, it is only through Your grace that one could even approach You!"
It is all Your will, Your power! O My Shyama Maa, do grant that Bhakti to this ignorant child...

Even as  a child choicelessly, naturally, effortlessly and without being taught - adores, loves, calls on and depends upon the Mother in complete innocent trust, .... so may this child immersed in Samsara come to You!

With the background and atmosphere reverberating with the deafening noise of the Diwali fire-crackers all around - reminding one of the Samara-bhoomi, Samsaara - Her worship proceeds, complete with melodious Kali Keertan.... a symbolic setting indeed.

And Sri Sri Thakurji watches in joy, the adoration of His Mother............

A few more images of the ongoing Kali worship, this Amavasya night are appended!
Amavasya night, Mahakali sporting with Mahakala... and Sri Thakurji divinely intoxicated...in poorna Bhaava... is an inspiring reminder!!

Jai Sri Maa!!
